Leicester’s Diwali celebrations – said to be the biggest outside of India – will be scaled down this year.
There will be no fireworks and traditional stage show during the Belgrave Road celebrations on October 20, the city council said.
The Diwali Village, with food stalls and funfair rides, will also not go ahead.

It is after concerns were raised by the city’s Safety Advisory Group, after the event attracted around 50,000 people last year.
The group, which includes representatives from the city council, police and other emergency services, rejected plans for the “additional activities”.
