Delhi Food Poisoning: 200 Fall Ill After Eating Buckwheat Flour Snacks During Navratri Fasting

At least 200 people in northwest Delhi reported food poisoning. They became ill after eating snacks made out of buckwheat flour, known as kuttu atta, during Navratri fasting.

Residents near Jahangirpuri experienced severe stomach aches, vomiting, and diarrhoea, requiring emergency care at a local hospital.

The incident sparked panic in the affected areas, as many residents were observing Navratri fasts.

The police are educating shopkeepers and residents about unsafe food.

The case has been referred to the New Delhi government’s Food Department.

Food poisoning in Delhi, India, includes notable outbreaks in 2011, which affected nearly 400 people due to adulterated buckwheat flour, and in 2019, linked to green gram and other dishes.

Victims reported symptoms like vomiting, diarrhoea, and stomach aches, highlighting the severe impact of consuming contaminated food.
